WIDE SKIES

VERY SPECIAL GUESTS: GULP

Join WIDE SKIES at The Social to celebrate the launch of their third single Waiting for the Answers

It begins with acoustic guitar and Hannah’s yearning vocal — an intimate opening that reflects the song’s theme of lonely solitude…

But in its search to make sense of being alone, Waiting for the Answers soon becomes urgent. Rearing up and breaking free, it gallops home as a perfectly formed pop song.

Recorded in the summer of 2015 (along with the final tracks of their debut album, planned for release in early 2016), WIDE SKIES’ third single Waiting for the Answers, again self-released on their own label Before The Dawn Records, signals a gear change for the band. While they had previously self produced and recorded in their own studio, this year they spent summer days recording at Bluebell Sounds with producer/engineer Ian Dowling (Bombay Bicycle Club, Adele, Madison Ward and the Mama Bear), developing an exciting new focus and intensifying the enchantment of their unique sound.

2015 saw the release of WIDE SKIES’ first two singles, Take Care Of Love and Gold Dust. WIDE SKIES have received great support at radio including numerous plays from BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne (who made Take Care Of Love her ‘headphones moment’), live sessions for Robert Elms on his BBC London show, plays on XFM from John Kennedy and Georgie Rogers and plays on Amazing Radio.

Inspired by luminaries such as Feist, Kate Bush, Portishead, Elbow, Fleetwood Mac and Burt Bacharach, WIDE SKIES create a rare and arresting atmosphere in which they paint scenes of love, loss and courage, weaving the sound of Folk, Soul and 60ʼs Pop perfectly with their British Indie roots. Vocalist Hannah Caughlin has the endearing softness of Natasha Khan, but together with her bandmate Jamie McDonald they achieve a merge not unlike Nico and Lou Reed. With their lush recordings and spellbinding live performances, they have sealed their reputation with a loyal fan base, and are rapidly establishing themselves in the hearts and minds of broader audiences.

Hannah previously brought her vocal and writing talents to The Accidental, The Memory Band, The Bicycle Thieves and notable pop producers Xenomania. Jamie’s earlier incarnation was in the band South who released four albums on labels including Moʼwax and Sanctuary, as well as touring with The Strokes and Ian Brown. He has recently spent time as a tour guitarist with Finley Quaye and Nicolai Fraiture of The Strokes.

WIDE SKIES, led by Hannah Caughlin and Jamie McDonald, are supported by the brilliant musicianship of three other band members: Ascher Nathan on keyboards (touring member of the band South), Alister Wedderburn on bass (formerly of Look, Stranger!) and Dav Shiel on drums (previous member of Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves of Destiny).
