The Dreaming Spires bring their own cosmic mix of slow country burners and intriguing jangling guitars.
Rated by BBC Radio Ulster’s, Ralph McLean as “one of the finest bands in Britain today,” singing brothers, Robin and Joe Bennett – joined live by Tom Collison (keyboards) and F Scott Kenny (drums) – have built quite a reputation and following in recent times.
Current release “Searching for the Supertruth” emphasises how the duo effortlessly straddle a line between the influence of roots music, classic 60s pop and their youthful love of indie rock from both sides of the Atlantic. Their fondness for the distinctive harmonies in the tradition of The Everly Brothers and The Byrds is never far from the surface, either.

Last year The Dreaming Spires made their stateside debut in September at AmericanaFest in Nashville, which helped them to secure a deal with US label Last Chance Records, and their national TV debut on the Andrew Marr Show. 2016 has already seen them on the nominees list for the inaugural UK Americana Awards, for “UK Album of the Year” and “UK Artist of the Year”, with Joe nominated for the “Instrumentalist of the Year” award.
The band are currently working on a brand new EP, “Paisley Overground”, recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, and due for release in June 2016.
In 1999 The Social opened in Little Portland Street. The brainchild of a record company whose offshoots included a hugely successful underground club night, The Social was set up with a simple manifesto – to provide great music and better booze to anyone who fancied tripping through the doors.
15 years later and still run by the original team who created it – Heavenly Recordings & The Breakfast Group – the bar is an award winning London institution. Designed back then by a partnership of David Adjaye and Will Russell (now of Pentagram) with the proviso of withstanding nuclear attack or – at the very least – the worst that people could chuck at it, The Social has launched over a million hugely successful hangovers.
